Living cost in Japan

Monthly living expenses (including tuition) in Japan for international students on average nationwide comes to about 138,000 yen. Regionally, the Shikoku region has the lowest living expenses at 104,000 yen, while the Kanto region has the highest living expenses at 154,000 yen.

COE (Certificate of Eligibility)

The COE is a certificate that is necessary for obtaining the Status of Residence Visa when entering Japan. Required documents including the COE will be submitted to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate before arrival in Japan, and a visa will be issued in your passport. Upon landing in Japan, show the visa and COE to the Immigration Officer and you will enter Japan upon receiving the Status of Residence “College Student.”

Conditions for applying

  • Valid passport
  • 12 years of general education or above.
  • Age +2 pass until 24 years, Bachelor passes until 28 years and Master pass until 32 years can apply for student visa to Japan.

Duration

  • Maximum 2 years total at Japanese language school(s)

Working conditions

  • Permitted part time job for 28 hours a week during a semester
  • Permitted part time job for 8 hours a day while you are on a long-term vacation
  • Attendance ratio greater than 90%

A student should submit following documents and certificates to process Student Visa.

  • Application for Admission (Affix your photo (3cm*4cm) taken within past 3 months
  • All academic certificates and transcripts
  • Photocopy of original citizenship certificate and its English translation
  • Photocopy of Passport
  • P. P. Size Photo
  • An essay (purpose of study in Japan)
  • Gap certificate if the student has some gap in academic history
  • Bank balance certificate with statement for 3 years
  • Annual income certificate for 3 years
  • Occupation letter if your sponsor is employed
  • Property valuation
  • Tax clearance for 3 years
  • Relationship certificate to make sure the relation between the student and his/her sponsor (relationship certificate photo must be within 3 months)
  • Birth certificate (birth certificate photo must be within 3 months)
